The Milky Way is the galaxy that includes our Solar System, with the name describing the galaxy’s appearance from Earth: a hazy band of light seen in the night sky formed from stars that cannot be individually distinguished by the naked eye.

The Milky Way is made up of about 90% dark matter, matter which cannot be seen and about 10% “luminous matter”, or matter that we can see with our eyes.

This large quantity of dark matter causes an invisible halo that surrounds the Milky WayEarth is in the second largest galaxy of the Local Group – a galaxy called the Milky Way.
